After high school, he earned a Bachelorís Degree at Southern Connecticut State University and then went on to the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Masterís Degree and 6th Year in Administration.
Richard was known by his many friends and colleagues as a dedicated and caring man, one always ready with a warm smile, a friendly joke, and a listening ear. Richard was a member of the Marchegian Society, the Lions Club, and the New Haven County Retired Teachers Association. Throughout the years he also remained a faithful supporter of Notre Dame High School, his alma mater, creating a scholarship there (the Richard Belfonti Endowment Fund) designed to help deserving young students further their education.
